Volunteers

A service delivered to the community by the community

Chichester and District Citizens Advice Bureau is committed to delivering its free advice services using volunteer advisers. Volunteers remain the core of the Bureau; without them there would be no Citizens Advice Bureau in Chichester.

Advisers
The Bureau maintains a base of around 30 volunteers to run its advice services. Alongside this number there will usually be two or three advisers in training or as trainee advisers on the rota. Our advisers commit to working one full day at the Bureau, though some work two or more days each week. The rota system means that we have a team of five or six advisers on duty each day to deal with clients who come into the Bureau or who telephone for advice.
Chichester CAB has been lucky in keeping its advisers for many years and the depth of experience that we are able to offer clients is without equal.

What are we looking for?
  • Commitment and reliability
  • good listening skills
  • an ability to work with a huge range of people
  • someone who is practical and methodical
  • an ability to read and explain complex information
  • someone who is calm, caring and able to communicate
  • an open mind and respect for others
  • stamina and a sense of humour

Administration
Working alongside the advisers we have a small team of administration volunteers who undertake such tasks as secretarial duties, collating statistics and preparing reports, taking minutes at Board Meetings, and running our Residents Appeal. (This website was designed by a volunteer).

Trustee Board
As a Registered Charity and a Limited Company by we are managed by a Trustee Board, drawn from members of the public, all of whom are volunteers.

Become a Volunteer
We ask for no specific qualifications from our volunteers other than a willingness to undertake our training, if appropriate, and an acceptance of our Aims and Principles. We invite any prospective advisers to come into the Bureau to discuss what we do, meet the Bureau Manager and some of the staff and see how we work. There will then be a short-listing and interview process before prospective advisers are accepted onto our training course. All new advisers will be subject to a CRB check.
